飢饉（上几冝反尒雅穀不熟曰飢蒼頡篇云飢餒也腹中空也說文餓也從[企-止+皂]几聲古文作𩚎下勤刃反穀梁傳云三穀不㚈謂之饉尒雅云蔬不熟曰饉說文從食從堇聲也）。

Famine and dearth 飢饉 (The upper character has the fanqie ji + yi; the Erya says: “Failure of the grain crop is called ji 飢.” The Cang Jie pian says: “Hungry; empty belly.” The Shuowen says: “Starving; deriving from [企-止+皂] with the phonetic ji 几; the ancient graph was written 𩚎.” The lower character has the fanqie qin + ren; the Guliang zhuan says: “Failure of the three grains is called jin 饉.” The Erya says: “Vegetables not ripening is called jin.” The Shuowen says: “Deriving from shi 食 [food] with the phonetic jin 堇”).
