策勵（上楚責反說文云策箠也從竹朿聲朿音七恣反下力滯反玉篇勵勉也相勸勉也從力厲聲案策勵者以勇進心除嬾墯意勤力修行也）。

Exhort and encourage (策勵): The upper character has the fanqie *chǔ* + *zé* (策). The *Shuowen [jiezi]* says: 'A whip. Derived from 竹 (bamboo) with 朿 as phonetic; 朿 has the fanqie *qī* + *zì*.' The lower character has the fanqie *lì* + *zhì* (勵). The *Yupian* says: 'To encourage; to exhort one another. Derived from 力 (strength) with 厲 as phonetic.' Note: To exhort and encourage means using a zealous and progressive mind to eliminate indolence and diligently cultivate the practice.
