撝空（上音毀危反玉篇云撝所謂手所指也說文從軍作揮並通皆形聲字也為字從爪）。

Pointing into the void (撝空): The upper character has the fanqie *huǐ* + *wēi* (撝). The *Yupian* says: 'To wave (*huī*) is what is pointed to by the hand.' The *Shuowen [jiezi]* writes it with 軍 as 揮; both are acceptable, and both are phono-semantic compounds. The character 為 is derived from 爪 (claw).
