履踐(上音里鄭注禮記云履蹈地行也說文足所依也從尸從彳從夂夂行意從舟舟象履經從復者非也下前剪反義訓與上同)。
Tread and step (履踐): The upper character is pronounced *lǐ* (履). Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the *Liji* says: 'To tread upon the ground and walk.' The *Shuowen [jiezi]* says: 'That upon which the foot relies. Derived from 尸, 彳, and 夂; 夂 signifies walking; derived from 舟, which resembles a shoe.' The scripture's variant with 復 is incorrect. The lower character has the fanqie *qián* + *jiǎn* (踐); its definition is the same as the above.
