A wink and a breath (瞚息: shi [式] + run [閏] fan. The Yunying says: “To move the eyes.” In the sūtras written interchangeably as 瞬; opening and closing the eyes, shaking rapidly. It is formed from eye [目] and 寅. Examining this, a blink of the eye (瞬目) is one closing of the eyes; a breath (息) is one drawing of breath; it denotes extreme swiftness. The Lüshi Chunqiu says: “Ten thousand generations are still like the blink of an eye”).
