淳熟 (the upper character is *shí* + *lún* [fanqie: chún]; it is a popular character; the standard form takes [高/((卄*├)/干)] as [泳-永+(高/((卄*├)/干))]; the Guangya says: "'Chún' means to soak or steep." The Kaosheng says: "Pure." The Shuowen jiezi says that with the water radical it is written as [泳-永+(高/((卄*├)/干))], meaning to drain; 'lù' (盝) is *lù* [fanqie]. The lower character is *cháng* + *lù* [fanqie: shú]; the Kaosheng says: "Ripened or completed." The Fangyan says: "Thoroughly cooked." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Food properly cooked; derived from 'ji' (丮) with [高/((卄*├)/干)] as phonetic." 'Rèn' (餁) is *ér* + *zhěn* [fanqie]; 'ji' (丮) is *jí* [fanqie]; [高/((卄*├)/干)] is *shí* + *lún* [fanqie]. Nowadays it is commonly written as 孰, or with the four dots of fire (灬) below as 熟, both being reduced variant forms of clerical script; both are acceptable. '灬' is pronounced *piāo*).
