叡喆 (the first syllable: fanqie: 以 + 歲; Jia's commentary on the Guoyu says: 'It means clear and perspicacious.' The Guangya says: 'It means wise.' The Shuowen says: 'Deeply discerning.' Derived from [(├/(同-(一/口)+、))*又], from 目 (eye), and from an abbreviated 谷 (valley); [(├/(同-(一/口)+、))*又] is pronounced can. The second syllable: fanqie: 知 + 列; the Fangyan says: '喆 means wise.' The Shuowen writes it as 悊, or as 哲; character dictionaries write it as 哲).
