Female deer (牝鹿: the first character has the sound p- [頻] + -ǐn [泯] fanqie; 泯 has the sound m- [蜜] + -ǐn [牝] fanqie. The Guangya says: '牝 means female.' The Shuowen says: 'A mother beast; formed from the ox radical (牛) with bǐ (匕) as phonetic; 匕 has the sound bǐ [妣]').
