課抒（上科臥反陸機云課課虛無以責有字書云並制責功也說文從言果聲下常呂反桂苑珠藂云抒挹也字書云解也斲削也說文云挹酌取物也從我予聲經序從木作杼誤也）。

Assessing and expressing (課抒: the first character has the sound k- [科] + -uò [臥] fanqie. Lu Ji says: '課 means examining the formless to demand substance.' Character dictionaries say: 'To uniformly regulate and demand achievements.' The Shuowen says: 'Formed from the speech radical (言) with guǒ (果) as phonetic.' The second character has the sound ch- [常] + -ǚ [呂] fanqie. The Guiyuan zhucun says: '抒 means to ladle out.' Character dictionaries say: 'To untie; to chop and pare.' The Shuowen says: 'To ladle or take up things; formed from wǒ (我) with yǔ (予) as phonetic.' The sūtra preface mistakenly writes it with the tree radical as 杼).
