Generations of sacrificial offerings (世享) (The second character has the fanqie xiang + yang. The Mao Shi says: “Xiang (享) means to offer up.” Liu Zhao’s commentary on the Gongyang zhuan says: “It means to eat.” Du’s commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: “It means to receive.” Jia’s commentary on the Guoyu says: “It means ritual.” Gu Yewang says: “It refers to ghosts and spirits partaking of sacrificial offerings when elevated to the altars.” In the Shuowen it is written 𣌭, an abbreviation of gao (高) providing the phonetic).
