醜陋（上充帚反毛詩傳云惡也又眾也鄭注禮記云類也說文從鬼酉聲也下樓豆反考聲云陋賤也又醜也鄙也惡也顧野王云陋猥也爾雅隱也說文從𨸏㔷聲也）。

醜陋 (upper: *tsyʰuwng* + *tsyuw* [chǒu]: The commentary on the Mao *Classic of Poetry* says: 'Vile; also numerous.' Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the *Liji* says: 'Kind.' The *Shuowen jiezi* says: 'Follows the ghost radical with the phonetic *yǒu* (酉).' Lower: *luw* + *duw* [lòu]: The *Kaosheng* says: '陋 means base; also ugly, vulgar, and bad.' Gu Yewang says: '陋 means wretched.' The *Erya* says: 'Concealed.' The *Shuowen jiezi* says: 'Follows the mound radical with the phonetic *lǒu* (㔷)').
