The Kaosheng says: '甬 [yǒng] refers to flowers of grass that have not yet opened.' The Shuowen says: 'The flourishing buds of plants and trees are called 甬甬 [yǒngyǒng].' It is composed of 龴 with 用 as phonetic. 龴 is pronounced 含 [hán] + 敢 [gǎn] fanqie, depicting the flowers of plants and trees before opening, contained as if in a bud, being a pictographic character. In the sūtra text, writing it with 足 ['foot'] as 踊 is leaping, which is not the meaning of the sūtra).
