怵惕（恥律反下又作悐同他狄反說文怵恐惕驚也尚書云怵揚唯厲孔注云怵惕懷懼也亦悽愴）。

Apprehensive and alarmed (怵惕; *chi* + *lǜ* [chù]; the second character is also written 悐, pronounced *ta* + *di* [tì]; the *Shuowen jiezi* says: "怵 means fear; 惕 means fright." The *Shangshu* says: "[Be] apprehensive and watchful, solely fearful." Kong's commentary says: "怵惕 means cherishing dread; it also means mournful and distressed").
