呪詛（上州符反俗字也正從言作詶說文詶亦詛也從言州聲也下阻助反鄭注周禮云盟詛於要誓大事曰盟小事曰詛尚書云詛祝罵也說文從言且聲經從口作咀俗用字也傳用已久故存之）。

呪詛 (upper: *tsyuw* + *bju* [zhòu]: A popular character; correctly written with the speech radical as 詶. The *Shuowen jiezi* says: '詶 also means to curse; follows the speech radical with the phonetic *zhōu* (州).' Lower: *tsrjo* + *tsrjo* [zǔ]: Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the *Rites of Zhou* says: 'Making covenants and curses at sworn agreements: a great matter is called a covenant (盟); a small matter is called a curse (詛).' The *Book of Documents* says: '詛祝 means to revile and curse.' The *Shuowen jiezi* says: 'Follows the speech radical with the phonetic *qiě* (且).' The sūtra writes it with the mouth radical as 咀, which is a popular variant usage; having been transmitted and used for a long time, it is preserved here).
