Flawed and transgressed (缺犯; the first character is *quan* + *yue* [quē]; Gu Yewang, examining the *Mao Shijing*, says: "缺 is like a blemish (玷)." The *Cangjiepian* says: "缺 means an opening." The *Shuowen jiezi* says it has the jar radical and 夬 as phonetic; 夬 is pronounced *guài*; 缶 is pronounced *fǔ* + *gǒu* [fǒu]; 玷 is pronounced *diǎn*).
