如爓 [Like a flame]: Fanqie 葉 (ye) + 壍 (qian) [MC: *jĭɛm]. The Kaosheng states: 'The appearance of blazing light.' The Shuowen jiezi states: '爓 is the flame of fire. Formed from 火 (fire) with the phonetic 閻 (yan).' The sūtra text writes 焰, which is a popular variant. 壍 is fanqie 妾 (qie) + 艷 (yan) [MC: *tsʰiɛmH].
