鷙鳥（脂利反猛鳥也廣雅鷙執也謂能執服眾鳥也鳥之勇銳者曰鷙鷹鸇之類也經文從虫作蟄音除立反虫獸蟄藏也蟄非此用也）。

鷙鳥 [Bird of prey]: Fanqie 脂 (zhi) + 利 (li) [MC: *t͡ɕĭiH]. A fierce bird. The Guangya states: '鷙 (zhi) means to seize; it refers to the ability to seize and overpower flocks of birds.' A bird of swift ferocity is called 鷙 (zhi), of the kind like hawks and falcons. In the sūtra text it is written with 虫 as 蟄, which has the sound fanqie 除 (chu) + 立 (li) [MC: *ɖĭəp], meaning insects and beasts hibernating; 蟄 is not the proper word here.
