帔袈裟（上音丕顧野王云帔謂帔之於背上也王注楚辭云在背曰帔也說文從巾皮聲經從衣作被亦通借音用也）。

帔袈裟 (the first character is pronounced pi; Gu Yewang says: "Pei refers to wearing a mantle over the back"; Wang's commentary to the Songs of Chu says: "What is worn on the back is called pei"; the Shuowen jiezi says: "It is composed of 'cloth' with pi as phonetic"; the sūtra writes it with the clothing radical as 被, which is also an acceptable phonetic borrowing).
