牆壁（匠羊反論語云夫子之牆數仞也孔注云七尺曰仞考工記云牆厚三尺也尚書云無敢逾垣牆顧野王云牆亦垣也說文從嗇爿聲爿音床嗇音色也或作墻又作廧亦作牆雖通用今並不取也）。

牆壁 (jiang-yang fan; the Analects says: "The Master's wall is several ren high"; Kong's commentary says: "Seven chi is called a ren"; the Kaogong ji says: "A wall is three chi thick"; the Book of Documents says: "Let none dare cross over the enclosing walls"; Gu Yewang says: "Qiang also means yuan [wall]"; the Shuowen jiezi says: "Composed of se with qiang as phonetic; qiang is pronounced chuang; se is pronounced se"; also written 墻, 廧, or 牆; although interchangeable, none of these variants are adopted here).
