誹謗（上音斐下補浪反說文誹猶謗也杜注左傳謗亦毀也大戴禮堯立誹謗之木文字典說並從言非旁俱聲也）。

Slander and defame (誹謗: the first character is pronounced like 斐 [fěi]; the second character has the fanqie [bu] + [lang]. The Shuowen says: '誹 [fěi] is like 謗 [bàng].' Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: '謗 also means to slander.' The Da Dai Liji says: 'Yao established the post for slander and criticism.' The Wenzi dianshuo says: 'Both derive from 言 [words] with 非 and 旁 respectively phonetic.').
