妖孽（字體作孽同五竭反說文衣服歌謠草木之怪謂之妖禽獸蟲蝗之怪謂之孽孽災也）。

Monstrous omens (妖孽): The standard character is written 孽, pronounced with the fanqie 五竭 (niè). The Shuowen jiezi states: "Anomalies in clothing, songs and ballads, or plants and trees are called 妖; anomalies among birds, beasts, and locusts are called 孽." 孽 means calamity.
