矛矟（上莫侯反考聲云酋就荖矛戈類也說文矛長二丈建於兵車象形也文字典說酋矛經作柔非也今不取也下雙卓反廣疋云矟矛也古今正字矟長一丈八尺從矛肖聲也）。

Maoshuo 矛矟 (the first character is fanqie 莫 + 侯. The Kaosheng states: "A long spear (qiomao 酋矛); a type of dagger-axe or lance." The Shuowen states: "A spear twenty feet in length, erected upon war chariots; a pictograph." The Wenzidian shuo writes 酋矛; the sūtra's writing with rou 柔 is erroneous and not adopted here. The second character is fanqie 雙 + 卓. The Guangya states: "A shuo 矟 is a spear (mao 矛)." The Gujin zhengzi states: "A shuo is eighteen feet in length; classified under spear (矛) with the phonophoric xiao 肖").
