Pinching incense (拈香: fanqie [niǎn jiān] (nian-jian / niān); the Guangya says niān means to hold; the Shiming says to pinch and take up between two fingers; the character is classified under 手 with 占 as phonetic; pinching with fingers is niān; the Shuowen says niān is 𢬴, pronounced with the fanqie [ní zhé] (ni-zhe)).
