Constantly linked (常聯: fanqie [lì chán] (li-chan / lián); the Kaosheng says lián means continuous; the Shuowen says linked, as ears are joined to the cheeks, hence it is classified under 耳, and with 絲 for uninterruptedness; an associative compound character).
