Selling flesh (𧶻莽娑) (the first character is *mo-hou* fan; Erya says: "𧶻 means market"; Yunying says: "𧶻 means to sell"; Shuowen jiezi says: "To exchange wealth"; it takes the cowrie radical and the 戼 sound; 戼 is the ancient character for 酉; the sūtra text takes 夘 to write 𧵍, which is incorrect; 'selling *māṃsa*' refers to selling the flesh of a corpse; this is a matter within the ritual procedures for driving and commanding spirits; one takes the undecayed flesh of a recently deceased person, prepares it like in kitchen culinary art, mixes it with ginger, pepper, and the five flavours, dresses and roasts or fries it to make it fragrant and delicious, and uses it to make offerings to the mighty spirits and ghosts in the śmaśāna charnel grounds; once the offering is made, through the mighty prestige of the Uṣṇīṣa Mantra, one immediately coerces and commands them, sending them to eliminate enemies and harms for the state; because this food is used to barter for their strength, it is called 'selling *māṃsa*'; the character 炙 is *zhi-yi* fan, taking the flesh radical; the character 㷅 is *chu-jiao* fan, colloquially written as 炒).
