Smelting together (合鍊) (the second character is *lian-dian* fan; also written as 煉; Shuowen jiezi says: "Smelting metal"; it takes the metal radical and the *jian* (柬) sound; 柬 has the same sound as above; the sūtra text takes the silk radical as 練, which is incorrect).
