Islets and islands (渚島: the upper character [渚 is pronounced] 諸 + 暑 fanqie; the Kaosheng says it means a small islet, also written 陼; the lower character [島 is pronounced] 刀 + 老 fanqie; the Shuowen says a mountain in the sea that can be inhabited is called 島; it is composed of 山 'mountain' with 鳥 as its phonetic; sometimes written 嶋, also written 隝).
