槀稈（上高老反考聲云禾黍莖也顧野王云槀即禾槀草也說文形聲字也下干嬾反杜注左傳稈亦槀也古今正字禾莖也從禾旱聲亦稻稈草也）。

槀稈: The first character has the fanqie gao + lao (gǎo). The *Kaosheng* says: 'The stalks of grain and millet.' Gu Yewang says: 'Gao is dried grain stalks; straw.' The *Shuowen* says it is a phono-semantic compound character. The second character has the fanqie gan + lan (gǎn). Du's commentary to the *Zuozhuan* says: 'Gan is also gao (straw).' The *Gujin zhengzi* says: 'Grain stalks; composed of the 'grain' (禾) semantic and gan (旱) phonetic; also refers to rice straw.'
