衒賣（玄絹反說文行旦賣從行玄聲或從言作𧗳下埋敗反說文出物也從出賈聲今俗從土作賣變體訛也又說買字從四從貝會意字今俗用從皿訛謬也）。

衒賣: The first character has the fanqie xuan + juan (xuàn). The *Shuowen* says: 'Walking about offering goods for sale; composed of the 'movement' (行) semantic and xuan (玄) phonetic.' Sometimes written with the 'speech' radical as 𧗳. The second character has the fanqie mai + bai (mài). The *Shuowen* says: 'Bringing forth goods; composed of chu (出) and the gu (賈) phonetic.' Modern vulgar usage writes it with 'earth' (土) as 賣, which is a corrupt variant form. Furthermore, the character 'to buy' (買) is composed of 'four' (四) and 'cowrie' (貝) as an ideographic compound; modern vulgar usage writing it with 'dish' (皿) is an error.
