縮向: The first character has the fanqie sou + liu (sù). Jia's commentary to the *Guoyu* says: 'Suo means to end; to withdraw.' Song Zhong's commentary to the *Taixuanjing* says: 'Suo means to stop.' The *Shuowen* says: 'Suo means to contract; composed of the 'silk' (糸) semantic and su (宿) phonetic.'
