庳腳（上皮美反鄭注周禮云庳短也顧野王云庳卑也說文從广卑聲广音儼下姜虐反即牀腳也說文從肉卻聲也俗用從去作脚訛謬也卻音羌虐反本篆文從卩從谷谷音強略反從重八從口今𥛬書故從去正字太古不行也今為訓釋其文故說其本末也任隨意用）。

庳腳 (The upper character has the fanqie [皮+美]. Zheng's commentary to the Zhouli says: "庳 means short." Gu Yewang says: "庳 means low." The Shuowen says: "From 广 with 卑 phonetic." 广 is pronounced [儼]. The lower character has the fanqie [姜+虐], which refers to the legs of a couch. The Shuowen says: "From 肉 with 卻 phonetic." The popular usage writes it with 去 as 脚, which is corrupt and erroneous. 卻 has the fanqie [羌+虐]. The original seal graph was from 卩 and 谷; 谷 is pronounced with the fanqie [強+略]; composed of double 八 and 口. Modern clerical script therefore wrote it with 去. The orthodox character is excessively archaic and out of use. Now, in order to gloss the text, its origins are explained, leaving it up to individual discretion to use.)
