Strike and beat (扣擊) (The upper character is pronounced kou. Kong's commentary on the Analects states: "扣 means to strike." The Guangya states: "扣 means to hold." The Shuowen states: "Composed with 句 and 攴 as 𢼒; 𢼒 also means to strike. Sometimes written with 'settlement' [邑] as [邱-丘+日]").
