豆蔻（吼搆反本草云味辛無毒能治心腹痛亦療口臭生南海交趾苗似薑花白苗根及子亦似杜若此即是木上者子如彈丸別有草豆𦽛出外國子小白色如小酸棗也味辛甚香每食含嚼令人口香治胷鬲氣）。

豆蔻 (hǒu gòu fan [kòu]; the Bencao says: "Pungent in taste, non-toxic; it can cure epigastric and abdominal pain and also treats halitosis. It grows in the Southern Sea and Jiaozhi; its sprouts resemble ginger, its flowers are white, and its sprout roots and seeds also resemble Alpinia japonica; this is the tree-borne variety, whose seeds are like pellets. There is also the caodoukou [Alpinia katsumadai], which comes from foreign countries, with small white seeds like small sour jujubes, pungent in taste and very fragrant; holding and chewing them after each meal perfumes the mouth and treats qi congestion in the chest and diaphragm").
