麾惡（上毀為反顧野王云以旌旗指眾也淮南子云軍之待麾妄指則亂也杜注左傳麾之招也古今正字從麻從毛）。

Waving off evil (麾惡, the first character is pronounced h[uǐ]-w[éi] fan; Gu Yewang says: "To direct the multitude with a banner." The Huainanzi says: "An army awaiting the commander's banner; rash pointing causes chaos." Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan says: "麾 means to signal." The Gujin zhengzi states: "Formed with the 'hemp' radical and the 'hair' radical").
