沛然（上普貝反何休注公羊云沛然有餘優饒皃也孟子曰沛然德教溢干四海顧野王謂雨之注濊洪澍也廣雅大也說文從水市聲或從雨作霈市音同上濊音呼外反澍音之戍反）。

沛然 (The first character has the fanqie 普貝. He Xiu's commentary on the *Gongyang zhuan* says: "Pèirán (沛然) means having an abundance, the appearance of overflowing generosity." *Mencius* says: "His virtuous teachings spread abundantly over the four seas." Gu Yewang considers it to refer to rain pouring copiously in a torrential deluge. The *Guangya* says: "Great." The *Shuowen jiezi* says: "It derives from 'water' (水) with 市 as the phonetic; it is also written from 'rain' (雨) as 霈." The sound of 市 is the same as above. The fanqie of 濊 is 呼外. The fanqie of 澍 is 之戍).
