旭日（凶玉反考聲云旭明也說文云日旦出皃也從日從九下而質反說文太陽精象形字也）。

Rising sun (旭日: the first character is pronounced [凶 + 玉] x-ù [xù]. The Kaosheng says: "旭 (xu) means bright." The Shuowen says: "The appearance of the sun rising at dawn. It derives from 日 and 九." The second character is pronounced [而 + 質] r-ì [rì]. The Shuowen says: "The essence of great yang; it is a pictographic character").
