魚蚌 "Fish and mussels" (The character 魚 in the Shuowen jiezi is formed from 刀; a pictographic character. The second character is pronounced bu-jiang [bang]. The Erya says: "The 蚌 contains moisture (jiang)." Guo's commentary says: "The clam/mussel." The Kaosheng says: "A kind of clam." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Formed from 虫 'insect' with 丰 as phonetic." Sometimes written 蜯, a vulgar character. 丰 is pronounced feng).
