媿恧（歸位反杜注左傳魏慙也愽雅耻也說文從女鬼聲或作愧亦通也下女六反尒雅云心媿為恧說文亦慙也從心而聲）。

Ashamed and abashed (媿恧: [媿 has the fanqie] 歸位反. Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: '媿 means to be ashamed (慙).' The Boya [says]: 'Shame (耻).' The Shuowen [says it is] composed of 女 with 鬼 phonetic. It is also written as 愧, which is also acceptable. The lower [character has the fanqie] 女六反. The Erya says: 'Inner shame is 恧.' The Shuowen also says: 'To be ashamed (慙).' Composed of 心 with 而 phonetic).
