禍酷（古文俈[嚳-爻+同]焅三形同口篤反說文酷急也告之甚也亦暴虐也白虎通云酷極也教令竆極嚴也）。

禍酷 (disaster and cruelty: in ancient script written as 俈, [嚳-爻+同], or 焅; all homophonous with kou + du fanqie. The *Shuowen jiezi* states: "酷 means urgent; it means an extreme degree of reprimand; it also means tyrannical and cruel." The *Baihu tong* says: "酷 means extreme; it means that orders and edicts are excessively harsh.")
