焚蕩（上扶文反考聲焚謂火燒也說文從火在林下亦聲也下堂浪反孔注尚書蕩除也說文從水𦳝聲𦳝音丑良反）。

焚蕩 [Burn and sweep away] (the first character is pronounced with the fanqie fú + wén [fén]. The Kaosheng states: "Fén refers to burning by fire." The Shuowen states: "It takes 'huǒ' (火) placed under 'lín' (林); it is also phonetic." The second character is pronounced with the fanqie táng + làng [dàng]. Kong's commentary on the Book of Documents states: "Dàng means to clear away." The Shuowen states: "It takes 'shuǐ' (水) as its semantic classifier and 'chǎng' (𦳝) as its phonetic component"; '𦳝' is pronounced with the fanqie chǒu + liáng [chǎng]).
