彈棊（上達舟反廣雅彈拼也顧野王云凡皷動物曰彈說文從弓單聲下忌箕反顧野王云棊所以行奕者也方言博也吳楚之間或謂之棊圍棊謂之奕也考聲云棊方木為之也說文從木其聲或從石作碁通用）。

Flicking-chess 彈棊 (the first character, fanqie: 達 + 舟; Guangya: "彈 means to strike/flick"; Gu Yewang: "Whenever one strikes an object to make it move, it is called 彈"; Shuowen: "Analyzed as from 弓 (bow) and 單 phonetic"; the second character, fanqie: 忌 + 箕; Gu Yewang: "棊 is that which is used to play chess"; Fangyan: "A game of board-play; between Wu and Chu some call it 棊, while weiqi is called 奕"; Kaosheng: "Chess pieces are made of square wood"; Shuowen: "Analyzed as from 木 (wood) and 其 phonetic; sometimes written with 石 (stone) as 碁, used interchangeably").
