North of the Yangtze it is called gān (泔); south of the Yangtze it is called pān (潘).' 澱 has the ancient script form [黑*展]; tú + jiàn fanqie. The Erya says: 'Sediment (澱) is called [(卬-ㄗ+斤)/土].' Guo Pu says: '澱 is dregs. East of the Yangtze it is called [(卬-ㄗ+斤)/土].' The treatise's text writes 淀, as in newly formed water; also a pool that is shallow is called a diàn (淀); diàn is not this meaning.
