編髮（必綿反鄭注禮記云編列髮為之其古之遺象也若今之假髮也劉注公羊傳云編連也蒼頡篇織也說文次簡也從糸扁聲也）。

編髮 (braided hair; pronounced with the fanqie 必 and 綿 [=biān]. Zheng's commentary to the Liji says: 'Arranging and plaiting hair to make it; it is an image handed down from antiquity, resembling the false hair of today.' Liu's commentary to the Gongyang zhuan says: '編 means to join together.' The Cangjiepian says: 'To weave.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'To arrange bamboo slips in sequence.' It takes 糸 as semantic component and 扁 as phonetic component).
