錯綜（祖送反謂錯其文綜理其義也廣雅錯廁也言相間廁也綜捴也捴括文義也鍇挍也挍理說文綜機縷也謂持絲交者屈繩制經令開合也綜記也理也紀領絲別也）。

Weaving and synthesizing (錯綜: fanqie 祖 + 送. This means interweaving the text and synthesizing its principles. The Guangya says: "Cuo [錯] means intercalating, meaning mutually alternating." Zong [綜] means collecting together, summarizing the textual principles. Xu Kai says: "Collation; collating and ordering." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Zong refers to the threads on a loom; that is, holding the crossed silks by bending cords to control the warp threads, making them open and close." Zong also means to record, to regulate, and to sort out silk threads).
