Roar (xiaohou; ancient character is 虓; fanqie: 呼 + 交 [x- + -iao → xiao]; the Shuowen jiezi states: the cry of a tiger, a sound of great fury; the second character has the two ancient forms 呴 and 吐, now written 呴, also written 吼; fanqie: 呼 + 苟 [h- + -ou → hou]; hou means to howl).
