沒力伽羅子（梵語也亦言物伽伽羅伽此云胡豆即是緣色豆也羅此云取作此間語應言取緣豆此是其姓上古仙人名勿伽羅不食一切物唯食胡豆故名取胡豆是此仙人種故以為姓也舊言目揵連訛略也）。

Maudgalyāyana (Sanskrit; also called *wujiagaluojia*; translated here as "mung bean", which is a green bean; *la* means "to take"; in the language here, one should say "taker of mung beans"; this is his clan name: an ancient ṛṣi named Mudgala did not eat any ordinary food, but ate only mung beans, hence he was called "taker of mung beans", and being of the lineage of this ṛṣi, he took it as his clan name; the former *Mujianlian* is corrupt and abbreviated).
