耿价（上耕幸反鄭箋毛詩云耿耿儆也纂韻云耿車一也韻英耿耿不安考聲耿亦介也說文光也明也從耳火聲下皆𢬿反劉熙注孟子云价操也王逸注楚辭云价節也暨志价而不忘說文從人介聲論文從八作介謂介冑甲也非耿价之義也）。

Gengjie 耿价 (firm and upright) (the first is *gēng-xìng* fanqie; Zheng Xuan's commentary on the Mao Shi states: "*Genggeng* [耿耿] means vigilant"; the Zanyun states: "*Geng* [耿] means one [wheel] of a carriage"; the Yunying states: "*Genggeng* means uneasy"; the Kaosheng states: "*Geng* [耿] also means steadfast [*jie* 介]"; the Shuowen jiezi states: "Light, bright; derived from 'ear' with 'fire' as phonetic"; the second is *jiē-kài* fanqie; Liu Xi's commentary on the Mengzi states: "*Jie* [价] means conduct/integrity"; Wang Yi's commentary on the Chuci states: "*Jie* [价] means integrity"; in 'and my mind remained steadfast and unforgetting'; the Shuowen jiezi states: "Derived from 'man' with *jie* [介] as phonetic"; the treatise text writes it with *bā* [八] as *jie* [介], meaning armor and helmets, which is not the meaning of *gengjie*).
