Postal station and patrol (亭邏, [亭 is pronounced with the fanqie] *tu* + *ding*; the next character is pronounced with the fanqie *li* + *he*; the Han dynasty followed the Qin in having a station every ten leagues; [亭 means] to stay; *luo* (邏) refers to the military garrison, roaming troops used to defend against bandits; the *Yunlue* states that *luo* also means investigating illicit activities).
