滌沈蔽（上庭的反。孔注尚書滌除也。鄭注周禮云滌濯溉也。毛詩傳云滌掃除之也。何休注公羊云謂取其潔淨也。說文滌洒也。從水條聲中朕林反。尒雅云沉止也。頋野王云沉猶淪翳也。說文云沈一曰濁𪐨昏也從水冘聲𪐨音丁感反冘音淫。下必計反。杜注左傳云蔽障也。論語云好仁不好學其蔽也愚。頋野王云蔽暗不明也。說文蔽艸小兒從廾敝聲）。

滌沈蔽 (The first character is *ting* + *di* fanqie; Kong's commentary on the *Shangshu* says: "滌 means to eliminate." Zheng's commentary to the *Zhouli* says: "滌濯 means to wash and cleanse." The Mao commentary to the *Shijing* says: "滌 means to sweep clean." He Xiu's commentary to the *Gongyang* says: "This means taking it for its cleanliness." The *Shuowen* says: "滌 means to rinse; derived from 水 with 條 phonetic." The middle character is *zhen* + *lin* fanqie; the *Erya* says: "沉 means to stop." Gu Yewang says: "沉 is like sinking into obscurity." The *Shuowen* says: "沈, one definition says: turbid and obscure; derived from 水 with 冘 phonetic; 𪐨 is *ding* + *gan* fanqie; 冘 is *yin*." The lower character is *bi* + *ji* fanqie; Du's commentary to the *Zuo tradition* says: "蔽 means to obstruct." The *Analects* says: "To love benevolence without loving learning—its delusion is folly." Gu Yewang says: "蔽 means dark and unclear." The *Shuowen* says: "蔽 is grass, small; derived from 廾 with 敝 phonetic").
