焦炷 'Burnt lamp-wick' (The first character is fanqie 獎 + 遙. The Kaosheng states: 'Extremely dry; injured by fire.' The Yunquan states: 'Blackened and singed.' The Shuowen jiezi states: 'Scorched by fire; in ancient script written with three 隹 and 火 as 𤓪; now abbreviated in clerical script simply as 焦.' In the treatise it is written with 火 as 燋, which is incorrect and is pronounced 即 + 藥, meaning to scorch a tortoise shell with fire. The second character is fanqie 朱 + 孺. The Kaosheng states: 'A 炷 is a lamp-wick.' This character appeared in recent times in the Yupian; neither the Shuowen nor the Gujin zhengzi contains it.).
